Sean Hannity was trying to throw Donald Trump a life vest, and Trump was waving it off.

At a town hall in Davenport, Iowa, on the eve of what may be the final Republican primary debate of the campaign, the Fox News host asked the likely GOP nominee whether he had “any plans whatsoever, if reelected president, to abuse power? To break the law? To use the government to go after people?”

Trump parried. Hannity probed. He again asked Trump whether he was indeed “promising America tonight you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?”

“Except for Day One,” Trump said.

Were Trump’s initial remarks a Trumpian jest? A threat? A promise?

Back in Davenport, as Hannity wrapped the town hall, the crowd’s reaction left no confusion over how Trump’s town hall and his remarks landed.

They gave him a standing ovation.

    I need an adult.

Trump isn’t hiding what he plans to do. He has been open and honest that he will be a dictator and tyrant.

It’s almost like he could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and wouldn’t lose voters

He clarified that he will build the wall and drill, drill, drill. He also said that Hannity was asking if he would be dictator and he said no, except for day one. Watch the video, that dude is going to be a full on dictator.

The audience was okay with a dictator for one day, what’s a few more years. Call me crazy, but you can do a lot of damage being a dictator for one day. Trump is of course, lying. He plans on taking over everything and not make the same mistakes he made trying to go full coup and fascist. His intensity about being a dictator was not good.

I thought he was asked if he was going to become a dictator. Only on day one means he’ll be one from the start right? Anyway I suspect that’s what he meant.

No it doesn’t. He’s going full steam ahead, and a lot of the country supports him. I can feel the background noise of insanity permeate my city.
