A great outcome of this would be the general public realizing that youtube is not the place for academic engagement. It’s entertainment, full stop. Just because some guy puts together a video essay doesn’t mean they know shit about anything. Actually, I’d argue it’s a big sign that they specifically do not know what they are talking about, and are simply trying to make a buck off you.

Video essays have always struck me as pseudointellectual crap 90% of the time. With a few exceptions, it’s clear that the creator has no background in academic writing/presentation and they almost always end up talking in circles, phrasing their message in different ways and never really advancing their argument.
