It is a bit irritating for those of us who don’t need to be baited. But I wonder if it’s worthwhile if it attracts more eyeballs and actually works in engaging more people.

Mosdef is about the algorithm, getting clicks. i understand but it bothers me still. the guy has great guests, they should focus on creating good content.
What good is creating good content if people don’t click on it? These kinds of channels do not need to be preaching to the choir. We are a niche audience that is already convinced of the anti-imperialist perspective, we are not the people who need to see these videos the most.
I would need to see the numbers but i’m fairly sure they wouldn’t be using titles and thumbnails like they are if they didn’t have a positive effect in boosting engagement.

Clickbaity-patterned video title got such negative stereotype since majority of video with such title tend to be made with minimal efford. Doing so pretty much advertise your vid as “CLICK ME PLZ I NEED VIEW” kind of video, whether that’s your intention or not.
I think he’s one of the people Andrew Korybko is subtweeting with his substacks about other “alt media”
Yeah, it feels very inflammatory. If it works to get a couple of China haters educated I’m ok with it, but I think they’ll just click away as soon as they realise it doesn’t support their preconcieved ideas. They don’t watch those sorts of videos to learn, they watch them to be consoled and congratulated for being on the “right team”
Yep, same reason most internet and twitch debates are really dumb. No one actually learns anything or reflects.
One of the reasons I like being here. I can actually discuss ideas with people and people can offer counter-points without it devolving into an internet shouting match.
It gets clicks, he’s likely seeing data to back it up on his end with more clicks and views of his content. Which in the end is good, so I don’t really care. We have to work with what we have available to us.
I had to look him up just now. It turns out I’ve been avoiding him because of how clickbaity his thumbnails & titles are.
But his content is really good.
Yes. I’m okay with the titles, because of YouTube algorithm, but I’d like to see some better journalistic titles in the description of the video.
