They use the same technology as in the personal shields in Dune (heavens forbid originality). Fast moving objects like bullets are deflected but slow moving things like knives or, as in this case, parking trucks get right through. This is also why the Cybertruck is equipped with an on-board air supply because when you are driving down the highway, the fast moving air is blocked. Without the on-board air supply a two hour road trip on the highway could mean death by suffocation. True facts.

They are technically bulletproof but only if you’re shooting subsonic .22lr iirc. It wouldn’t even classify for the lowest grade of personnel armor.

The panels stop 9mm from a video not from tesla, but nothing hotter.

Tesla has a video of it being able to withstand .45 but I haven’t seen anyone else verify.

What kind of sick flex is it, buying that 100k monstrosity, putting money in a self avowed fascists pocket, then driving it to work, where you pay your workers the very least you can get away with. Well deserved.

Man, I saw one 2 weeks ago up close.

Its such a fingerprint magnet, it’s not even funny. The owner was using it just like a normal pickup and normal things you do with pickups were causing serious wear and tear that should take years. The buttons for the bed cover feel cheap and like they’re going to break. There’s no way they’ll stand up to California sun. The front quarter panel corner is SHARP. There are lots of sharp corners that are very capable of causing harm.

I always look at everything with a “how could I fix this if it breaks” mind, and the cybertruck just drives me nuts. It’d be impossible to fix

While this is funny, unless Reddit recently became a microblogging website, this is the wrong place for this post

Why the fuck are you parking your fancy shit where semi trucks would be backing up?

I’m sure the owner thinks it is, and they’re the one who parked it. (I’m assuming it was parked at the time, else the driver would have gotten out of the way.)

I once parked my car at the end of a row in a large public parking lot. It coincidentally was near a hotel that was being renovated. Came out to find a window shattered and a dent just below the window. It clearly looked like an 18-wheeler making a delivery to the hotel backed into it…

That spongy tissue is for mating season, when the Cybertruck owner puffs up his mirrors in a rhythmic pattern to attract ladies

It’s from the fender, and it’s to reduce perceived road noise from inside the car. There’s lots of that stuff in a modern car, that’s part of why they’re so quiet on the inside.

The metal look with rust appearing in the first week is a feature.

It means that you can just duct tape it and smear it in shit. Nobody can’t tell the difference anyway.

I actually think they look better with that rust-like patina!

Sure, they’ll look cool in crash derbys, but they probably won’t win.

They very much would win. It’s the first car in a long time that basically decided crumple zones were for wussies.

That’s just for crushing pedestrians. Preferably young ones who aren’t even visible from the car.

Anyway, yes, electric vehicles would definitely have an advantage in a destruction derby from having fewer breakable parts, but unfortunately for the cyber truck, it breaks very easily. It broke from Elons’ pussy arm throwing a ball at it on the first presentation.
