I just got my open source ploopy mouse and headphone kit today. And I’m going to have fun assembling it!

https://ploopy.co/mouse/

Ploopy is totally open source, including the PCB, the 3D print files, and the drivers. Thought it might be fun to do everything from scratch, but the PCB they designed is a four-layer PCB which is very difficult to do at home. And ordering it from PCB Way cost more than just buying the kit directly from the ploopy people. Though I would get five PCBs at the minimum order volume, and if I was building five of these mice, it would probably be cheaper.

Wish me luck!

Yes… But it’s open source so you could smack a Bluetooth controller onto the schematic and make a version 2.0

      Good eye!

The 951 uses the integrated tips so they heat up in 1-2 seconds. In fact, I specifically purchased a 951 for its quick heat properties!

I really enjoyed it. I was looking at the newer model fx 971 with its slick quick tip remover, but finding tips for it was hard so I went with the 951 even though it’s a little bit older.

One downside about the older 951, is when you want to swap tips you have to manually remove the tip and put the new one in, which is a bit of a logistical hassle. But not a big deal

Overall. I’m really happy with the 951

Wow a couple seconds! Mine was nowhere near that, but also could be because I bought aftermarket tips, the stock ones are so expensive! I like the t-12 kind of irons, also super fast to heat.

My tips are about $12 USD. I think they are genuine. How long did your tips take to come up to temperature?

I just turned on my station. 350° c in 8 seconds the first time, one second whenever I lift it up off the holder.
