In the court filing, Castro argues Trump violated the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which bars anyone who engaged in or provided aid or comfort to an insurrection from holding office.

Didn’t MTG also provide aid and comfort? Would love to see more lawsuits like this for other traitors.

Lots of people run afoul of 14A S3, and I would expect that once any of these challenges on its basis succeeds, the moves will begin swiftly to address Trump and others in many states.

Lots of people run afoul of 14A S3,

Yeah, it’s a habit I’m trying to break. People keep telling me that I have to watch out for 14A S3, but I just can’t help occasionally committing a little light treason. 14AS3 is a constant topic around our dinner table, discussed only less than the merits of 26 U.S. Code § 36B of the US tax code.

Is there any possibility that this lawsuit is an attempt to get a favourable (to the republican party) ruling (that Trump can stand) by presenting a poor case and therefore blocking a properly prepared and presented case on the basis that it has already been ruled on?

I see what you’re saying but he’s only running in the swing states so it messes with Trump’s chances. He’s definitely an anti-trumper, imo.

They’re not smart enough to do that.

My guess is that they’ll try to get it tossed on the grounds that he’s also running for President and this is a conflict of interest.

I think a lawsuit like this would have a much better chance of success if it were being filed by a secretary of state, an AG, or some other offical that doesn’t have direct skin in the game.

Doesn’t that show he’s actively being damaged by Trump’s running tho and this has standing? The recourse he’s asking for is directly in line with that reasoning.

This dude is getting paid in exposure. It’s midly amusing that this grift is messing with Trump, but this is nothing but a PR move for a small time lawyer to get news articles about him. Nothing will come of it and absolutely no one should be giving him money for his self serving ways.

You know what’s better than donating money to a Republican opposing Trump? Donating to a Democrat, because in addition to opposing Trump they also:

      1. want you to marry who you want
      2. want you to be able to afford going college
      3. want you to be able to afford going to the doctor
      4. reduce income inequality
      5. don’t suck up to Russia
      6. care about climate and our environment
      7. want to strengthen the power of labor against capital

among other things. So why support a Republican who agrees with you on exactly one issue, when you could support a candidate who agrees with you on multiple issues?

The lawsuit is cool and all, but one of the other articles in my feed is that one billion people are expected to die due to climate change over the next century, and this idiot wants to increase oil and coal production.

The enemy of my enemy, is still my enemy, not my friend. He may be fighting against trump, but he’s not doing it because he’s a good person, or because he has good intentions.
