Lol such a lame and coward decision. They had a chance to declare the terrorists some time ago but they didn’t, because… Wait for it… That would have had “consequences”

So now when Pirojin (sic) is dead and the group is dismantled, they took their ball in one hand and declared them terrorists? Lol pathetic UK being pathetic

It’s true, I’m so sorry to say.

I read the article, hit reply and almost started with the standard ‘Redditesque’ response, you know expletives and insults and whatnot; but I can’t.

I’m simply too exhausted by the behavior and performance of my country’s government. Exhausted by my neighbours who continually vote for this political party despite what it has done to my country. The absolute gall of this cabinet to announce this act, when there is no longer anything to act against.

People way say ‘but the weapons and training’ and yes, they were (and remain) essential. I honestly believe Ben Wallace to be a decent and principled man and that he acted from a sense of what was needed for Ukraine, not what was good for his career but, it is easy to arm an ally when the world opposes your enemy.

Sanctioning Wargner while it was active, with an active leadership was not so easy it seems.

I really wish Biden would do this too. There’s ample historical evidence that Wagner is a group of complete fucking psychos, but even if we restrict the scope to the Ukrainian War, the second all that horrific shit started coming out of Bucha early in the war should have been the moment they got nailed with that label in an official capacity.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The Wagner mercenary group will be declared a terrorist organisation, the Home Office has announced.

A draft order will be laid in parliament on Wednesday, which will make it illegal to be a member of or support the Russian group in the UK.

The group has played a prominent role in the Russian invasion of Ukraine since it began in February 2022.

The Home Office said the decision had been taken to proscribe the group under the Terrorism Act 2000 due to “the nature and scale of the organisation’s activities as well as the threat they pose to British nationals abroad”.

Suella Braverman, the home secretary, said: “Wagner is a violent and destructive organisation which has acted as a military tool of Vladimir Putin’s Russia overseas.

The crash occurred exactly two months after Prigozhin mounted a short-lived armed rebellion against Russia’s military leadership, posing the biggest challenge to Vladimir Putin’s authority in his 23-year rule.
