I noticed a new background image on the Android podcast app this morning. I thought one of my podcasts changed their icon art. Nope, it’s a Logan Paul podcast. I’ve never listened to any of his stuff. I only heard about him when he challenged someone to an MMA fight I think?

I only listen to Behind the Bastards, The Dollop, and Prosecuting Donald Trump, plus occasionally My Brother My Brother and Me.

I figured maybe one of my kids had subscribed or I had hit a subscribe button on the home page. Well, in the app, when I unsubscribe it immediately re-subscribes. I saw where other users had the same problem and it went away after an hour. This was 11 hours ago. I pulled it up on the Web version of Google podcasts. It looks like it unsubscribes but if I refresh, I’m subscribed again.

Any ideas? Is there a way to block a podcast?

Edit: Problem still persists 24 hours later. I’m not allowed to turn on the explicit filter either. On the app or on the web interface. What’s a good android program that will record video of my screen and highlight taps? I want to record this. I think I still have OBS studio on my computer to show the web behavior.

Logan Paul is the new spokesperson for Raytheon. The app determined an automatic synergy and decided it was time for you to learn how to buy and sell “shitcoins” and drop $25k on mint quality unopened pokemon booster packs.

It’s time to leave your silly Robert and Gareth behind and come join us in the land where showing suicided bodies in a Japanese forest is the new content.

I have nothing helpful to say but being forced to listen to Logan Paul is a flavor of dystopia that even Orwell wasn’t cruel or mad enough to imagine. Fingers crossed for you.

Time to start moving away from google services there mate. This behaviiur is only getting worse with time, and don’t get me started on the tracking. There are plenty of FOSS apps to do pretty much anything you need to do on an Android device

Antennapod is a great podcast app. I have behind the bastards on there right now!

Would you consider AntennaPod instead? It has been good for my podcast listening (audio only, no idea actually if it handles video ones).

Yep. Still can’t unsubscribe. Uninstalled the app and reinstalled. Still there. I’m allowed to unsubscribe the other podcasts.

I used to use pocket casts, but I’ll give all the apps mentioned here a try. Google podcasts integrated with auto mode in maps which I’ll miss, though.

I’ve already lost Google music for the pretty much non-functional YouTube music. Google is losing their talent.

I miss the Shifty Jelly era of Pocket Casts. App updates were so much fun, reading the changelog. Who even owns it now? I still use it but I’m nostalgic fonthr old black & red days when it was still indie.

It looks like it’s time to ditch whatever podcast app you’re using.

Look for a FOSS alternative, I’d recommend AntennaPod (https://antennapod.org/), but there are other alternatives out there: not bloated, no ads, no tracking, just what you choose to subscribe to.

Time to use a different app. Podcast Republic has served me well over the years. Keep in mind I use a proxy adblocker so I don’t know if it has a ton of ads otherwise.

I’m not an android user, but that’s pretty wild. Can you uninstall or delete the app and then install it again? If something is messed up on your end hopefully that would fix it. If it’s on their end there’s not much you can do. If you read about other having a similar issue then I sounds like it’s on their end though.

Glad you’re a MBMBAM fan though!

It behaves the same on their website, which doesn’t use the app at all. I think it’s back end. Which is why I was hoping there was a way to block it. Maybe I can turn on the explicit filter? I’ll have to resubscribe to most afterwards.

Edit: I’m not able to turn on the explicit filter. App or web.

The best thing is, the more you click on it, the more the algorithms think you like it!

I hope you’re looking forward to many more similar suggestions

Very weird, I definitely don’t have that issue. Only thing I can think of is it was one of your kids or something that pressed subscribe then when you tried to unsubscribe it just glitched out and your account just isn’t syncing the change. If Google was actually forcing podcasts on people that would be insane. Just get a new app I guess, I always hear the Google one is awful. Although I’m too lazy to swap.
