As a gay man living in South Dakota, I’ve found my online communities to be far less problematic and far more helpful than those I interact with in real life on a regular basis, and I’d include my experiences with credentialed therapists and addiction recovery groups in that assessment.
No, I was responding to you by disagreeing that online support communities are “doomed to fail” and elaborating further. I’ll add that I think often those of us with mental health issues are able to help each other, contrary to the conventional wisdom that says we can’t.
