It shares the incentive referees have to stick to the on field decision, even if it is wrong, because correcting it will them them demoted/punished. This is noted in the 6th point of the article.
In his first match, he’d wrongly awarded a penalty, before reversing the decision on the recommendation of VAR. This error had earned him a one-match demotion to the Championship.
I will admit this article is overly sympathetic the referees which I disagree with, but not all their decisions are driven by incompetency
