I recently switched to a new ISP and I have been able to obtain an IPv6 prefix so I can use it in my homelab. I use my homelab for learning and other automation tasks. I have an upstream firewall with a few directly attached DMZ and guest networks. I then I have a transit network from the firewall to a layer 3 switch with a few segmented VLANs.

In regards to deploying IPv6, what are the standards and best practices for deploying IPv6 internally? For example, I host a Windows Active Directory and I assigned static IPv6 addresses to the DCs/DNS. However, the DCs are still pulling another dynamic IPv6 and registering that within DNS. Normally within an IPv4 world, servers would generally be setup with a static and then manually create records within DNS. Or DHCP reservations and manual records in DNS.

Am I thinking about IPv6 incorrectly and just let it take an automated approach with SLAAC and manual statics? Or should it just be full dynamic SLAAC only except for a few key servers like DCs/DNS?

Should I even bother with a Windows DHCPv6 stateful server? Or just use Router-Advertisements with SLAAC and call it good?
