SimpleX Chat is still a relatively early stage platform (the mobile apps were released in March 2022) But in the end, SimpleX will be our choice, right? Or at least for most of us.

I’ve been using it and so far it’s pretty good actually. It has some strange issues with talkback (screen reader) that need worked out and i think it should allow you to set the SOCKS port manually. But otherwise its pretty nice.

I like it generally. The people designing the UX don’t seem to get how to do that though. They’re really hammering away at that no central server so much that the initial setup is off putting. You need to inform users of the strength of what they’re using, but not make the initial app setup so convoluted they don’t have any idea what’s going on. It’s very confusing, and not because the protocol requires it to be, but because the setup process in the app is convoluted for no practical reason.

Audio and video calls are not reliable. Some users can’t connect for some reason and there’s no way to figure out what the problem is so far.
