patch 13.22 (currently on pbe) now kicks you out of game (client works)

seems that this might be the patch with the previously mentioned end of year anticheat update as mentioned in this twitter video (@5:53):

https://twitter.com/LeagueOfLegends/status/1614028829823209472
https://nitter.net/LeagueOfLegends/status/1614028829823209472

for the sake of the game actually being playable i believe the subreddit should be reopened so that the community has a better chance at resolving the issue

as (sadly) people might not/will not be willing to make an account on an alternative platform

if you are wondering how to play on PBE (if you want to try and find out what is happening)

simply duplicate league of legends on lutris (in the right click menu) and add these arguments (under “game options”):

--launch-product=league_of_legends --launch-patchline=pbe

I’m afraid I have to agree that reopening the subreddit might be a sensible choice when raising awareness for these kinds of issues, as there doesn’t seem to be any other place to discuss this sort of thing other than r/linux_gaming where there’s not much attention given to general LoL posts, let alone troubleshooting ones. This Kbin is also sort of obscure, even though I can’t seem to think of any way to advertise it more than it already is, basically on r/leagueoflinux page and the website.
    BUT, there are some issues.

    1. No real way to poll the community on whether the subreddit should be reopened. A lot of people did agree to lock it indefinitely before it closed, but opinions may have changed.
    2. Should the idea of an alternative be abandoned? Or should that exist alongside the reopened subreddit? Both are suboptimal because a) the community on reddit is probably not sustainable in the long term (as the smallest but most probable-to-happen example, Kbin isn’t the most intuitive thing to use but it still feels better to use than the new Reddit UI, so what happens when old.reddit closes?) and b) splintering the community is a bad idea and besides, all alternatives will be eclipsed by anything on reddit anyway.

Kbin is a wasteland compared to the old subreddit and the discussion on the “state of the community” here proves there are huge issues (all the old knowledge that’s been lost is huge), but I don’t think the idea behind abandoning reddit is a bad one. Still though I think opening the subreddit even temporarily should be considered, first to help resolve the problems with 13.22 if those do exist, and second to discuss the state of the community with as much exposure as possible.

after i made this post the subreddit was actually reopened (wether this was actually due to my post; or someone elses who knows)

      https://old.reddit.com/r/leagueoflinux/

but only in a limited fashion (you can look; but if you post your post gets deleted by automod)

goes without saying i fully agree with you

as for patch 13.22 i’ve had others test PBE and they are having the same problem (client works; game fails to open after champ select)

its worth pointing out that the PBE has had several micro-updates after i first noticed the issue and the crash remains

which makes me feel like the problem will probably hit live

and in case you are wondering according to the patch schedule it hits live november 8th

Oh, nice. I think that’s a good start as reading old posts on the Wayback Machine has its limits.
As for everything else, it’s unfortunate. I’d be glad to help troubleshoot but my PBE account was deleted back when they removed a bunch of old accounts. Let’s just hope the problems aren’t anti-cheat related, even if they make it to live.

as far as i know you can simply create PBE accounts these days

no more wait time like years ago

but obviously thats up to you

also if it is an anticheat update

atleast they have kept the anticheat in userland if that is the case

          so its probably fixable

When I created my account way back you had to apply and wait, then IIRC they deleted plenty of accounts in order to “clean up” and you couldn’t really register anymore, but that was a long time ago so it’s possible (it’s also possible that I’m misremembering). Also, I don’t think they’ll bother changing their anti-cheat from userland like people were afraid of years ago, but userland could still create problems as any attempts to bypass their new stuff (if they exist) could flag your account, and it’s something we’ll never know until the ban waves start coming in.

i dont think PBE accounts are even linked to main accounts anymore like they used to be

but i wouldnt know personally because my PBE account is old

one of the people i had test the PBE to see if the crash was just for me made an account and it was seemingly instant

either way the patch comes out in 2 days (the 8th) so making PBE accounts purely to try and fix this problem is probably not very productive

Seconding this. Please open the subreddit. At the very least until patch 13.22 is playable.

We are already a very niche community where if people cant easily find information to play league on linux they will just not bother. If we want riot to take us seriously we need numbers.

I appreciate the effort in the protest and think the goals are virtuous, but clearly no change is happening anymore, all momentum is lost.

I beg you to not lose our already small and fragile community and for the sake of everyone to just open the damn sub.

Can confirm game is not starting after champselect on live servers with patch 13.22, I just get the option to reconnect in the client, but still unable to start the game. Client works fine, usually it’s the other way round. It seems they are aware of a problem causing games to crash, as stated in the notifications in the client.
