There are relatively few true “winter” thru-hikes. Sure, you can get away with starting some trails at the end of February or the beginning of March (even if that’s often a bad idea), but that’s not really what we’re talking about here. Rather, we’re referring to treks that are doable - and even pleasant - in the dead of winter, e.g. January. In this post, we’ll review some candidates routes, and then discuss some special considerations for winter thru-hiking.
