…they didn’t try to own parts the web. But I suppose we can forget that part too.

Edit: ah - I’m in /c/technology, where apple hate is real. Nevermind.

They totally do though. You can ONLY use webkit on any iOS device. Chrome, Firefox, etc. they all are forced to use webkit on iOS. Neither Google or Apple are treating the web nicely, but at least you have a choice to use a different browser. Apple makes that effectively impossible.

Also you can’t really use Apple TV properly without an Apple device. Same with iCloud. Actually really any service they make only works properly with their full stack.

While you disagree with it, I prefer Apple safeguarding browsing. Do I want real Chrome on my phone, the most personal device I use? No fucking way. Many of us buy into the Apple ecosystem for this reason, to further separate us from marketeers and trackers. To say Apple is the same as Google completely ignores this; IMHO, Google is far, far worse.

Of course I’m in c/technology. Bring on the anti-Apple downvotes.

I want Firefox (with its engine, not webkit) on my phone. With Apple that’s not possible

Then choose a different platform. Why do I need to sacrifice my security for your choice? Android has plenty of good software and hardware options and customization out the wahzoo.

It’s easy to not have Firefox on your device, just don’t install it. Why should apple prevent you from being able to do that?
