Y’all speaking about NewPipe and ReVanced, but SmartTube Next, which was originally intended for Android on smart TV’s, works perfectly on phones too.

And aside of blocking ads and allowing you to log in, it has Sponsorblock integrated.

people make videos for people for free. youtube (almost) doesnt pay anything to their content creators in ad revenue. it’s parasitic to annoy the audience into paying with ads

Not really IMO. If it gets to that, most people will pay. Sure, there will be workarounds, like ReVanced and the likes, but it will be unknown or too complicated to do for most users.

Services which were freely offered when creators added their content to YouTube, at no charge to YouTube, with no indication that there would be an attempt to charge an access fee.

YouTube encouraged the community to build a theme park while not paying even minimum wage to most of the builders, then decided to charge the community for admission to the park they built. This should be regarded as fraud and/or theft.

They have no third-party clients either, which I assume is to prevent piracy (which will happen anyway). For me, it has the opposite effect – I would pay if they enabled downloads. Now I just freeload the non-exclusive content off YouTube.

              ...

Because I’m bad at identifying sarcasm, this section exists in case “Ain’t that a basic feature nowadays :/” was meant sarcastically (it could be because of how much more popular streaming has become as opposed to downloading).

Well, I don’t really have mobile data (way too expensive in my country), so I pre-download videos to watch/listen to in public transit.

If I pay this kind of money, I expect an API to user-respecting third party apps.

That’s what they should do. Allow use of Reddit-style third party apps (before the API debacle) for premium users.

You can always stop paying or switch platforms. In my experience, it’s always good to switch every couple years for a lot of services online. It seems to be long term users that most often get milked

Yeah, but that just makes me feel like I’ve thrown away my money for nothing, like the platform didn’t get any better, it got worse… one of the many reasons why I pirate as well.

It’s a trade off. Unfortunately it seems that a lot of companies have figured out that making things more premium for fewer people means making the same amount of profit for less work

The way YouTube is handling it tho, is quite horrible

it started as a platform to share your private video’s, these day’s it is no longer about sharing, but about monitizing your video’s. the strange thing is, people still watch, I’m sure that there are or can be better alterntatives, hence instead of complaining, set up our/your own video sharing platform…

I would totally pay for YouTube premium if they weren’t so good about making me watch my favorite gun-tubers on other platforms. Every channel has this endless and constantly changing list of words they can’t say for fear of being demonetized.

    Fuck them indeed.

Break up the monopoly and I won’t need to block your ads because I’ll be able to go elsewhere.

Sucks to be an iOS user. On Android you can install ReVenced and block all Ads and in video sponsors.

Additionally, you can install 3th party clients for YouTube Music (without ads and background play).

Are you sure you want to use shady 3th party service like that? You wouldn’t want to break out of Apple’s eco system, wouldn’t you? 😂

Jailbreak? Jailbreak is dead since iOS 15 but ok 🤙 Nowadays, buying an iPhone to jailbreak afterward, doesn’t make much sense at this point. You pay so much to get stability and constancy, and jailbreaking takes both away.

As ex jailbreaker, I switched to Android for this reason.

Probably they will add a way to sideload APKs on device, without 3th party tools.
