Citizen Chronograph CA0649-4E - By far my favorite watch, love the EcoDrive

I had to look up what Eco-Drive is. I’m confused by the marketing that it “uses no battery” but the promo video says that light is converted into energy that’s stored in a “rechargeable power cell”, which sounds like a battery to me. LOL

Do you know if it’s a super capacitor, perhaps?

I have a Garmin solar watch, but know the battery it uses will eventually be what forces me to replace it down the line. I’d love to have a light-powered watch that uses a capacitor instead of a battery.

Honestly do not know where it stores the power. It charges whatever it charges with light (supposedly including indoor lighting) and physical movement. Had it 5 years and have gone months without wearing it in some instances, and the time stays accurate

Found out something new myself based on this little exchange between us, I wouldn’t have looked up the wiki otherwise. Pretty cool that they estimate they’ve saved over 10 million watch batteries from hitting a landfill. Makes me like the watch even more. There’s no reason this shouldn’t be standard tech for any watch over like $100.
