Unfortunately the Wickrme app is no longer available as of 31/12/2023.
Does anyone have any recommended alternatives?
Didn’t Amazon buy wikr a couple years ago anyways? That’s when I deleted it. Signal.
EDIT: as pointed out by LWD, op is likely just starting conversation to have another account recommend spyware, WireMin. Like he did in this thread’s comments: https://lemmy.world/comment/6346585 and I found on another post: https://lemmy.world/comment/6032047
Yes, they have been shit for years, with Amazon buying them, CBP using them in defiance of FOIA laws.

Use SimpleX Chat instead
Molly as hardened signal alternative
And before Amazon bought it, it was owned in part by Eric Prince, a POS in his own right. Really, there was no point at which Wickr was known for being anything but bad, so good riddance to bad software.
hmm no one said matrix. i rather like matrix. the whole key and passcode seems to confuse people but once its set up its nice and free… and you can host your own server if youre super paranoid.
(edit: I just realized this entire post might be part of an op to promote scam software so that’s kind of more important than this comment)
wait am i an op plant? like is there something about matrix i missed??
Sorry, not you. I just figured there were better times and places for me to rant about Matrix, which is a legitimate ecosystem
Missed your post before the edit. But I’d like to read your rant on Matrix. Even if it’s just a TL;DR.
I actually saved it lol. Matrix rant follows:
you can host your own server if youre super paranoid.
Trouble is, if you’re paranoid to the point of not wanting your data to traverse other people’s servers, then you need other people to sign up on yours.
In other words, if two people have the same mindset, neither of them will ever talk to the other, as Matrix governance rules say that all foreign servers have total right to ownership and control of your data once they access it. It’s a little screwed up, honestly, as there is a huge gulf between “once you send your data somewhere, it might not disappear” and “we must preserve your data, as it belongs to us now, you don’t have any rights to it”
Good eye. In another of op’s posts he asks a question for someone to then recommend WireMin. Up to no good https://lemmy.world/comment/6032047
I also am looking.
SimpleX gang here 🤔
