I’m going to use my mod powers that I abandoned and didn’t ask for when they were given back to warn potential subscribers to steer clear of Bean for now at the very least.
As many of us have purchased lifetime subscriptions with promised updates not being delivered and communication from the dev team all but nonexistent, I think it’s safe to assume that Bean has been abandoned. Please cancel any existing recurring subscriptions if you have them and do not subscribe if you haven’t.
There are many other good Lemmy clients out there. I personally have switched to Voyager, but people also seem to like Thunder and Mlem.
I apologize for my part in all this; just know that I was duped as well, and received no communication or compensation from the dev team.

Jerboa is pretty bomb too and it is maintained by the Lemmy devs.

Bean is an iOS app. Boost is android only.

Yes, it’s a one time fee. I wouldn’t recommend the ad-supported version.
If you decide to pay, it’s basically a more mature version of Jerboa with better previews for third-party links.

I think Boost and Jerboa are Android apps. I could be wrong, but pretty confident in that.

Idk. The devs run a business and still advertise with bean. If it is really abandoned instead of just low prioritized or idling they would start a coverup…in the end reputation sells.
The “likely” in the heading needs to be emphasized as we cannot say with certainty what will happen…
I would also not recommend anybody to subscribe or renew until there was a sign of life.

I’m willing to give bean a chance before drawing any conclusions. Some times real live stuff happens and you can’t get back to releasing updates or even announcements for a while.
However, I would really appreciate hearing some news about what’s going on. Is family stuff, relationship tragedies, hospital time, project prioritization, alien kidnapping, being stuck in a time loop or something else?

Imagine if aliens were to get pissed off by a corny yo mama joke and then decide to punish you by throwing you into a 1 year long time loop reliving 2020 over and over again. People tend to forget the kind of a dumpster fire that was.
Sync and boost are great on Android
Sync has been abandoned, too. No 0.19 update and the dev hasn’t said a thing on Discord in 3 months.
Arctic for Lemmy (iOS) has just been released on the Appstore. If anyone’s looking for alternatives this could be worth checking out. The app is free, and made entirely in swift. Everything is so smooth.
This is what I’ve been using. It does seem more polished and has better gestures than Bean.
