We raise our glasses \ To live without woes \ For our hearts to sing

We raise our glasses \ So that everything we want \ Would eventually happen

Trinity of the white horses \ Ride across the field

Guess what we have \ We have a party!

.

[2x]

The songs are flowing \ The wines are pouring \ And the glasses are knocking in the unison

Urkaine \ is not dead \ If we are still partying like that!

.

We’d make your blood boil \ even in that cold weather

By singing a song about love \ about love that’s mutual

Trinity of the white horses \ Ride across the field

Guess what we have \ We have a party!

.

[3x]

The songs are flowing \ The wines are pouring \ And the glasses are knocking in the unison

Urkaine \ is not dead \ If we are still partying like that!

.

The songs are flowing \ The wines are pouring \ And the glasses are knocking in the unison

Urkaine \ isn’t going to die \ As long as we are still partying like that!

In Simpheropol, Crimea, three girls were charged by russian occupational authorities for singing and dancing to that pop song in public. Viktory Dainenko, singing as a Victoria the Grumpy, was a big hit in all ex-USSR in the 00s. It’s a weird, stupid decision to criminalize it now, but who cares? They can ban every mention of that song with a capital punishment, but we all know that everyone here danced to it at least once, and why stop at that? The song is dated, but it’s still a blast.

There are two ways to view the song. On the one hand, it’s in Russian and it symbolizes the many years of Russia imposing its language and culture on its neighbors, with Serduchka having been complicit and regularly performed in Russia - even for Putin. On the other hand, as you noted, playing it inside Russia today can be a way of protesting the invasion and hate of Ukraine.

I won’t argue that but I’d like to see examples if you care to post them.

I have a lot of favs from both Ukraine and Russia, so I won’t turn into an angry vatnik-mode in the comments.

I don’t see where it came from.

You probably meant that you had

Learnt to speak Russian fluently, and live in Russia for a few years.

And I only asked you for a couple of examples of russian folk plagiarising ukrainian culture. I’m open to learn. But when you tell me that

Nothing I ever say wiil, or should, convince you of anything.

instead of dropping some examples, I can only assume that you’ve heard it somewhere and can’t prove it yourself. Instead, you choose to escape the conversation after your original claim.

It leaves me sad. I was in the right mood to hear some folk. And I got dismissed like I said something wrong.

Did you miss all these times Zelensky played in New year celebrations on the main russian television channels (with Slovyov, kek)? Or that many ukrainians, especially in southern and easter regions still speak russian? Many started to consider switching to uktainian full-time only in 2022. It was faster in Lviv, but it took some time in Kharkiv and regions. Still, many there are unsisting on speaking russian. Let them be, I guess.

Sergei Dainenko said he’s against that war and iirc he re-recorded some songs in ukrainian. Even that song has a punchline in ukrainian. He doesn’t need to protest anything, his whole existence as a drag artist wishing good to Ukraine are easy 20 years sentence down there. I hope he moved out of there.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. Besides, I don’t see the relevance of the whataboutism. Your argument could have some weight only in relation to someone who posts those old videos of Zelensky to point out their hypocrisy.
