Original post title: Genealogy is a silly, pointless hobby. People beyond your grandparents are strangers and if you go far enough back everyone’s connected, so what’s the point?

Body of post: I’ve known a few old folks who at a certain age suddenly get fascinated with genealogy. The thing they all have in common is estranged relationships with their living children.

Someone needs to tell them that if they showed as much interest in their kids as they do in dead strangers that maybe they wouldn’t have time or fascination with genealogy.

First comment I receive is:

The only disagreeable point is where you get shitty about assuming that people with a hobby you don’t get are somehow bad people.

It’s a hobby, they’re all pointless. People are allowed to enjoy pointless things.

Followed by a bunch bandwagon commenting and a bunch of downvotes.

The fucking page is called Unpopular Opinion! WTF!?

Your opinion was perfectly agreeable, but your attitude was shitty.

Now you’re whining about how people didn’t like your post after you deleted it.

If you think this is somehow the content people will miss if it goes away…
