Someone on eBay claims to be selling a VHS tape of Lana Del Rey’s childhood birthday party, and it’s dividing her fans on reddit.

Here’s what happened: A reddit user posted (screenshot here ) on on r/lanadelrey, saying that they’d been approached by an eBay seller who claims to have the only copy of this VHS tape. (This seller has claimed this for years, if that matters.) The reddit user was debating whether or not to buy the tape. The comments exploded, with a raging debate about whether it was invasive to Lana Del Rey, or whether the fans should buy the tape and destroy it or give it back to her. The comments got so heated that the mods eventually took the post down.

Now they’re censoring anyone who brings up the tape. It’s completely banned on that subreddit.

I think it’s really interesting that a VHS tape is responsible for all of this! How many of her fans even have VCRs?

Assuming it’s not a scam, I imagine that, if she cared, she’d have had an intermediary buy it before now. Most celebrities are probably resigned to the fact that any video footage not directly in their possession could come out and it’s not a big deal as long as it doesn’t show you with Jeffrey Epstein.

There are any number of companies that will copy video from whatever odd format you have it in.

Anyone with an important VHS would probably be advised to get it copied professionally.

And soon, the expiry date for VHS tapes has passed

You say that but I reckon I could eat one without getting food poisoning.

That said, it’s a good point. I am working with a few friends to rescue wedding videos currently trapped on obsolete formats.
