Trump’s comments came at a rally in Ohio in the context of auto manufacturing. The Biden campaign responded by criticizing the former president’s “threats of political violence.”

Former President Donald Trump vowed on Saturday that there would be a “bloodbath” if he’s not reelected in November.

The comments came at a rally here as Trump discussed the possibility of an increasing trade war with China over auto manufacturing. The rally was intended to get out the vote for Republican Senate candidate Bernie Moreno, whom Trump endorsed in December, ahead of Ohio’s primary on Tuesday.

Later, he added, “If this election isn’t won, I’m not sure that you’ll ever have another election in this country.”

    Whole quote:

“If you’re listening, President Xi — and you and I are friends — but he understands the way I deal. Those big monster car manufacturing plants that you’re building in Mexico right now…you’re going to not hire Americans and you’re going to sell the cars to us, no. We’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those cars if I get elected.”

"Now if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s gonna be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country. That will be the least of it. But they’re not going to sell those cars. They’re building massive factories.”

“If this election isn’t won, I’m not sure that you’ll ever have another election in this country.”

“Biden’s policies will create an economic bloodbath for the auto industry and auto workers.”

Huh, that title definitely takes it out of context. Don’t get me wrong, a violent bloodbath is absolutely his plan, but this quote seems to be more about an economic bloodbath

Trying to interpret his actual intent is pointless. That’s why his base likes him, he talks in circles, and you can attribute whatever meaning you want to it.

But if we’re going by his actual words, he’s saying that there will be a blood bath if he’s not elected, and that the tariff is the least of the trouble that’s going to happen when he takes power.

But his words and mid sentence topic changes can lead you to literally any conclusion.

This is the key thing to bear in mind. While the context does seem somewhat legit, it’s really framed in a way that can give several different messages, which is how he always talks - peppering in vitriolic soundbites amid a word salad of talking points. And it’s clear the part his supporters latch onto is the jingoistic core found in everything he says.

One thing that I’ve found is super consistent across all Trumpers that I’ve ever spoken to.

They have no fucking clue what tariffs are.
