the thread still showed a score of around 1,300 points, meaning that it had been believed to be real by quite a few users.

Someone doesn’t understand belief or how upvotes, downvotes, or Reddit work.

How do you push back on the narrative while not elevating it? I honestly vaguely remember hearing about this years ago and had forgotten it completely until now.

Of course it should be called out as false, but do it on the spot without making a new spotlight for it.

I guess I’m not sure the best way to clarify my point, but in general I think that it’s fine to catalog all the falsehoods together and publicize that, or it’s fine to combat them as needed, but going out of the way to bring one random lie to attention I think is just going to revitalize it while giving the wing nuts reign over “controlling the narrative”.

I think so few reasonable people are preoccupied by this lie that it may just be detracting from more important issues to elevate it.

In 2013, Trump made yet another disgusting comment about his daughter on the Wendy Williams Show. When asked what the two have in common, Trump replied, “Well, I was going to say sex, but I can’t relate that to her.”

And I’m sure that wench just clapped.

Bullshit claims aside, why is it bad for a father to shower or bathe with his young daughter?

Swede here. In our society parents share responsibilities. That includes bathing/showering kids when young.

      Americans are weird.

I know someone who lived in Japan for the first few years of her life, and even though she was a US military brat her parents bathed with her a lot. When they moved to the US her parents started acting like Americans and it took her a while to understand why her dad was suddenly wearing a towel in the bathroom.

This post is guilty of the exact kind of misinformation it is complaining about…

The linked Snopes article states that the line: “I [am] so afraid of him coming in the shower with me that I’ve waited until late at night to take a show” is not in the released contents of the stolen diary.

But the released contents of the stolen diary do contain: “showers w/ my dad (probably not appropriate).” Parents showering with their young children is quite normal, but the “probably not appropriate” makes it look more questionable along with other things in the diary such as “Hyper-sexualized @ a young age … I remember somewhat being sexualized with [a family member]; I remember having sex with friends @ a young age;”

If we trust Snopes articles, Joe Biden showering with his daughter is “Unproven”, not a “lie” as this post’s title so boldly claims.

No matter what point you try to make with any magat, they inevitably jump to “but Biden took shower with his daughter!!”, whataboutism at its finest. Problem is, its just another pathetic lie that they all believe without evidence and its time we pushed back on it.

Unfounded is the correct term here. It’s possible that it did happen; evidence, however, does not support a claim that it did.

To make a fake quote stating that they’re afraid of her father coming into the shower with her is, in fact, a lie.

Pushing back on a bullshit lie only gives it credibility to those clowns. It needs to be dismissed and not given any leverage.

There was supposedly a diary of Ashley’s that fell into conservative hands and the shower bit was part of it. James O’Keefe of Project Veritas wouldn’t touch it so it’s major bullshit.

Well that’s your problem; you’re talking to a brick wall and expecting intelligent discourse in return.

These people have no integrity so if it wasn’t this it would be something else. They don’t care whether it’s true or not because they don’t even care what it is, it’s just [placeholder criticism] that can be freely slotted in and out with whatever Fox News buzzwords are en vogue at the time.

Stop wasting your time trying to save the damned.

“Dont even bother trying to educate those idiots” seems like a horrible strategy, both for electoral politics and for society in general.

You’re right that there are some cultists who are irredeemable, but there are many more on the fringes who can be helped.

It’s not a matter of education.

            It requires deprogramming.

First step is listing the contradictions. The internet is full of this.

Second step is all on them, they need to start accepting the contradictions.

No one can force someone to take this step and it’s very unlikely a random internet stranger is going to be the one they trust.

Ultimately, the ones any of us have a chance of helping are those we know in our personal lives. Remaining zero contact until they are ready is acceptable to preserve one’s sanity and self care.

            Nuance, friend.

The message isn’t don’t educate the willing, the message is learn to pick your battles. I believe in the philosopher’s burden and allegory of the cave too, but I understand that even if you could tear from their chains and into the light, they still cannot see unless they’re willing to open their eyes.

I’m not saying don’t try to convert any opposition, I’m saying don’t waste your time with those who have cut off their ears.

I didn’t hear the one about Trump supporting abortion rights for a while there. Apparently he used to be a Democrat too. Of course it’s widely known that Trump would fuck his daughter at a moment’s notice.

Welcome to the internet, where all you need are quotation marks, a byline, and some confirmation bias to spread some disinformation.

“When I was about 4 or 5, in the club’s locker room, our father used to measure Jr and I’s wieners by asking us to put our junk in a cardboard toilet paper roll. After we would go, he would put the toilet roll around his penis and brag about how much more of the tube we was able to fill up.”

    Eric Trump
