There’s no way vague posting isn’t still a thing. People have always and will always be passive aggressive sadsacks from time to time. It’s just changed formats, not disappeared completely.
my discord status for the past, fuck me, 5 or 6 years now, has been some form of vauge moodposting because it amuses me.
It’s very cryptic and means almost nothing though.
In the 90’s: “I want to kill myself…”
“Oh no! Don’t do that. We’d miss you!”
Now: “I want to kill myself…”
“Lol same, fam.”
Is that really “the old Internet” though? That seems more like the Internet from like… 15 years ago maybe? That’s definitely not “the old Internet” lol I’m pretty sure people still do this don’t they? I don’t have any real social media accounts anymore so I haven’t really kept up with it
I’d say so, just not the oldest.
People don’t really do away messages anymore… that was over 20 years ago on AIM.
I still remember my ICQ number.
I’m pretty sure I do, too. I was a little jealous of my friend that had one like two digits shorter than mine.
Hell yeah! 3369689
Some of my friends had 6 digit icq numbers!
Think we used it for ultima online. Miss those days
Every message is an away message now.
The internet from 15 years ago is the old internet for anyone under 30.
And anyone over 30 is obviously a Boomer so we can safely disregard their perspective.
i would place the old/new internet divide on the commercialization of smartphones. Not on the user age but how we got online. Internaut profile too has changed from people who work with computers + gamers to anybody
Smartphones changed the internet after 2007
i’d say it’s the rise of social media, in this specific context at least.
it’s the smartphones that rose social media
when people started posting while waiting for their shit to come out, shit started oozing on these lines too
excuse my misanthropic moment here
Fuck man, my oldest is 15 now lol. He’s about to be the same age as I was when I was first dating the girl that I’m with now.
I disregard everything anyone says so maybe that’s either delusionment or enlightenment. Time will tell
You’re probably right, this time, but I don’t want to listen
You’re probably right, this time, but I don’t even care
And if it was mine to say, I wouldn’t say it
And if it was mine to say, I wouldn’t speak
Still fucking love this album
“the old Internet” is pre-social-media, dude. If you were moody back then, you put a Comic sans text on your free lycos Webspace, and if you were really fed up, you made it blink!
LYou’re forgetting about AIM and MSN ‘statuses’, I don’t remember if they were exactly called that but that’s what they were.
Yep, they were statuses on MSN. Remember when they added nudges?
This picture… I can hear it
This is the current Internet but with discord statuses.
u ok hun? dm me
Depressed people reaching out for help while being too socially anxious to admit they are… is still a thing
That will never go away, but the manner in which they are doing it changes throughout the years.
Honestly this is pretty common on Facebook still.
pm me babe xxxx
Isn’t it still the case?
In what context are away messages still in use?
Apparently my co-workers use them on Slack. I’m also to lazy though.
Definitely. half of my friends on discord still do this.
Let’s not forget if you were pissed at someone they wouldn’t be in your top 8 anymore
Oh man…this brings back such cringey memories of ANGRY away messages that everyone knew exactly who I was mad at…
Jesus, the cringe…
And yes, the lyrics were screamo. Thrice, to be exact.
Side note, Thrice has a really deep catalog now and are still putting out great music. A lot of it is kind of allegory but they really moved on from the teen screamo type music.
