I would argue its the monarchy that causes the issues or in other words the lack of democracy and rights for the citizens. I do understand unlike most here that you do not mean socialism in its pure politcal form but rather social policies like what folks like myself would like. I would not give up democracy for them though. I would argue that finland is the democratic form of this. Money from natural resources going toward social programs. Since its a democracy though the citizens have freedoms and the money is also invested for the future to keep the system sustainable and no one is looking to bribe the citizenry so much as the folks want basic needs covered and things to be done in a civilized fashion.
