TinyCat is off to the vet. He chucked again this morning, that makes it 4 times in a week. He’s also alternates between velcro-kitty and antagonist way more than usual. Suspect something is going on with him.

Listening to Magic Pill and the author describes animal testing of effects of different foods on appetite. I can’t help thinking of Ted Cat.

When Ted Cat came here I noticed he was quite short for a Nieb breed cat and he was ravenous. He would not stop eating. He would attack anyone who came near him. He only wanted packet food with gravy and would leave good food uneaten. He wanted to eat 3 times a day.

Over the months I slowly changed his diet. One packet food and some fresh food. He rejected good food and would get angry. I put out a huge bowl of crunchies to last for days, he ate it all in a day, his poor tummy was distended. He now eats fresh Fussy Cat meat and Fussy Cat kangaroo crunchies only. I now measure it all out carefully, I gave him a slow eating bowl so he wouldn’t wolf it down then start on Bill’s food. I fed him outdoors.

Then I got sick and husband fed the boys, they got unlimited food. Ted just went crazy and ate and ate, he’s now on a diet and it’s working.

The positive thing is that Ted Cat now eats healthier food , not packet food with gravy. I don’t know if he would choose gravy if offered. That’s the thing, Ted Cat doesn’t need will power, he doesn’t have the ability to make choices between foods, for him it’s eat or have nothing

Still feeling wrecked. Am kind of wondering whether it’s related to (an unpleasant road related incident)

    spoiler

an accident yesterday. I was riding home and had to u-turn as there had been accident involving a motorcyclist just several minutes before. I didn’t see anything, but I saw the bobbing of a head and I knew they were desperately doing CPR. A witness said they’d been trying for 5 mins and didn’t know when the ambulance would arrive. They were on the way when I was riding back in the opposite direction. The news reported that he died at the scene. I’m trying not to think about it, but it’s hard since I ride there almost weekly. I mean, I know that it can happen anywhere, but most people on the weekends are sort of chill. It is a winding 60km that increases to 80km, but most people on the weekends take it pretty easy. Hell, I rode Black Spur yesterday and one of the drivers was literally driving half the speed limit. sigh Just that constant reminder of life…

Sorry, just needed to offload it.

What a frickin dumpster fire. The EBU f’ed up hard. Also so much for not politicising Eurovision, Israel got over 300 points with one of the worst songs of the night! in the same 24 hours it warns of inceasing its bombing campaign in Rafa. I just…… I don’t even have words here. What the f is going on in the world.

The purpose of the UN is to get people talking in a room, as opposed to standing on opposite sides of the battlefield. To try and talk it out.

It’s not perfect. nothing involving humans is. People seem to think it’s like World Police but it’s not.

The purpose of the UN is to get people talking in a room,

till one of the permanent members of the security council use their veto anyway.

People seem to think it’s like World Police but it’s not.

But hear me out, what if it was? Syria. Ukraine. Palestine/Israel. Georgia. Somalia. Civilians dead under the current system. I get nothings perfect, but fuck man we gotta do better than this.

The veto only applies to security council, not geberal assembly and is a bit of a two edged sword.

But in regards to world police? You’re trying to use a drill as a hammer. It’s not designed for that.

Ok, UN as a world police. How does that work? What actions do they take now?

For fucks sake. Our fire alarms randomly went off. I was on the dunny half asleep. Nothing’s on fire. There are cobewebs around the fire alarm that’s going off, so my guess is that something’s moved in to it and is triggering the sensor. This actually happened at my last place, although at a much more reasonable hour.

Our alarms are a lot worse than regular alarms in regular houses. They’re all wired in series, so once one goes off, they all go off. It is controlled by a commercial style Pannell, but the best that can do for us is making it shut up for 8 minutes. After that it can be retriggered. We can’t just take it off the roof, A because we’d be in a fair bit of shit, but B because it’s bolted onto the roof and has several wires feeding into it anyways.

We can call the fire alarm company to replace it, but they won’t get here for several hours. Several hours while we’re meant to be asleep…

E: We tried vacuuming out any dust, in case that’s what was causing it but no dice. Fire panel people have been called. No clue how long they’ll be

E2: fire people reckon they’ll be here within an hour

E3: they came out quite quickly to fix it, which honestly wasn’t my experience in the past. Apparently nothing moved in, it just happened to go faulty. I blame the sun farts. In any case he took it off the roof and somebody will come tomorrow to replace it. A bit under 2 hours from it going off til it was fixed, which was honestly a good response time. Lovely bloke they sent too. He’s on call so we pulled him out of his slumber, so at least we aren’t alone in our suffering 😂

E4: also he called me back at 12:59, so he was here in under an hour

I am listening to Magic Pill for the second time ( book about ozempic weight loss drug )

here’s what I think after listening one time, it’s a great drug that actually works and it’s best used short term as an aid to tackling the psychology of eating and resetting eating habits.

I would totes take it if it were available here but it being Australia drug companies can’t be bothered and we have an over cautious government . I would even considering going to Canada to get it if possible.

Why is it good? It actually helps people regain health and reduces risks of age and weight related illnesses. This is proven .

One of the scary things I learnt in the book is how fake nearly all manufactured food is.

eg, bought cheese cake is just emulsified milk products, added oils, sugars and thickeners and flavour. Home made I used ricotta and eggs and real lemons or cherries. Real pastry base too.

One is fake food with practically no positive nutritional value, the other is real food that has some nutrition but should still be eaten sparingly as it’s high in calories.

The other sad thing is that the author’s parents worked so hard they were too tired to cook healthy meals. They ate premade meals zapped in the microwave. I will not fault the parents, that fault is in the work that tired them out and the food they bought being misrepresented as being healthy .

I thought about ozempic. I decided to do it the hard way, but those extra benefits for heart health etc are really interesting.

I’d be keen just for those secondary effects.

Most people use it for ever because they also don’t change their diet , they still eat the same crap just less of it, and don’t exercise. Once they stop using ozempic they go back to eating more bad food.

I think using it as an aid to help develope new good habits or reset your body signals is the way.

80% of my diet calories are very good, home cooked food using real basic ingredients, I eat fresh fruit and vegetables everyday. It’s that 20% of junk that’s bad, bikkies, lollies, occasional desserts, fried food.

And the side effects, absolutely minimal and unproven . The side effects of obesity are guaranteed, debilitating and often fatal .

That makes sense. About 5 years ago I did the whole body transformation thing and it was great. But! It was too extreme and I ended up (also due to lockdown) putting back about 40% of what I lost. It can be really easy to get carried away with the whole gym/eating/aesthetics thing, almost to the point of giving oneself an eating disroder. This time I’m trying to be smart by offsetting the junk I eat with healthy main meals and not religeously counting calories.

Took a pretty heavy call from a friend this afternoon that is going through a rough time. She had an altercation with some friends in our group which I think set her off into a spiral. I had no idea about any of this. It takes a lot of courage to reach out to someone.

I used to get affected by the same friends too, but then learned to stop putting disappointing people on a pedestal, thinking they do the same, and rely on them for emotional support and wellbeing which was always one way. I made some new friends. I discovered that healthy adult friendships actually exist and instead of being upset about certain behaviours from those people, I learned to pity that behaviour. I hope she learns this too.

Big hugs. Relate to that so very painfully. I still feel pangs of sadness over the loss of an entire friend circle over covid; I shared lots of values and experiences with them and we had lots of great times, but I could’ve kicked myself for being so reliant on them for that support/wellbeing when it turns out that they were supremely unwilling/unable to show up in the ways that mattered most when the chips were down.

It was impossible to have an honest conversation because they would beat themselves up in a show of contrition and shame but not actually acknowledge any issues and work on them (or anticipate them better). I know a lot of that is a trauma response from them but after a certain point it just wasn’t healthy to be around any more and I couldn’t handle continuing to be the only one willing to forgive and accommodate.

I’m still in the phase of not really having made any new friends on that level, though I certainly have strengthened my friendship with a couple of other rock-solid people in my life and it’s made me so much more grateful for them.

      so many many hugs

it was a very sad day for me when I realised my family of origin would never be a support . I went non contact because of abuse, and my husband’s family? I will do nothing for them anymore other than grunt oh noes when they tell sad tales. I am lucky to have a few people in my life I can rely on and I think that’s what it’s like. In life we only get a few people.

Hard relate. I’ve learned to try and be happy in my own company rather than deal with that, but humans are a social animal and those behaviours are so pervasive
