Reading my journal from a year ago and I was upset because I had sent my ex a reel that my friend had sent to me saying, “Have some virtual flowers, you deserve it.”

He had replied back saying to send some good quality memes instead. Dude didn’t like the tiniest hint of sap. I am very glad I’m not with someone I’m incompatible with anymore and that I’m not upset over such a stupid thing. Peace ✌️ :)

Mrs stole my Xbox so I dusted off the PS3 and hooked it up to an old tv to play some of the best games ever: Ratchet and Clank. Just finished a crack in time and really want to get back into some Up Your Arsenal and Rift Apart when I get my copies back from the brother in law. I know I played Rift Apart, but it must’ve been early days with the kid cause I remember basically none of it. Dont remember much of Tears of the Kingdom either…

Ahhhh I LOVE ratchet and clank!!! I got the trilogy on PS2 and Gladiator, as well as the new ones as well, been playing them since I was like, 10?! Literally my favourite game series, along with Spyro on PS1 (both were made by Insomniac, my fav game dev lol)

The first game I really remember was the very first one. We played the shit out of it on those demo units at harvey norman. Up Your Arsenal remains my favorite game of all time.

I’ve got the Spyro trilogy on switch and ps4.

I wish they’d remaster the original ratchet and clank trilogy. It’s something that didn’t catch my attention when it first came out and I really want would like them updated.

its crazy it isnt playable on PS5. You can stream it apparently, but its pretty broken. Having to pull out the ps3 when my XSX plays 360 games is kind of bonkers.

Miss Meow has now been successfully taken to the vet. I managed to get her into the carrier with only one scratch. She was so terrified about the whole thing the vet has prescribed sedatives for next time. She has also been declared overweight and in need of a diet, so of course the first thing she did when we got home was make a beeline for her dry food bowl and stuff her face with comfort kibble.

On the way home I beeped at a pedestrian for the first time ever. Seriously Miss Pedestrian, you have right of way to cross the road, not to stop half way contemplating life or admiring the view or whatever it was she was up to. Then, to add to the excitement of the trip, when I got home there was a police crime scene unit parked next door. I am guessing someone robbed the new townhouses over the road, empty houses filled with brand new appliances tend to be a bit of a target.

Miss Meow is missing chompers and is still overweight. What are you feeding her? Maybe she’s raiding the pantry while you’re asleep.

I love when pedestrians cross the road, but do so at an angle or diagonally or whatever, then wave as is we are ok with it. no you muppet! Cross is a straight line, quick as you can. Dont stuff around talking on the phone or whatever.

I just had that happen this morning when I went out for a quick chemist trip.

Blocked me as I was turning into a lane, blocked me from reverse parking and initiating it and blocked me when I need to go back forwards to angle myself correctly.

Also got in my way as I was walking into the shopping centre.

It’s amazing how non attentive pedestrians can really get in your way.

How come there is no good aussie budget cooking folks on youtube? are our grocery prices just making that stuff redundant. I know americans eat like shit, but there is some real bargains in their grocery stores.

Americans eat really well, some Americans, but not everyone cooks because not everyone has the ability or the time and energy.

Home brands are very cheap there and good quality. The basics are so cheap too. It’s all about choice.

What we hear in Australia is the American middle class looking down on the good basics. ( it’s so classist there ) And there is a tendency to diss America in the press here too.

I ate like a king in America.

that pink grapefruit juice is so yum, I totes miss half and half, jalapeno jack and Wholefoods homebrands. omg, and the peaches from down south 😭 avocados from mexico really do taste better.

The food here is expensive. I don’t know why.

I think thats it, their pantry stuffers are so much cheaper, more varied and give a lot more basic meal options.

18% rent increase for the piece of shit I live in. Not unexpected, but still sucks. I wouldn’t wish anyone live here let alone pay for the privilege. Going to start demanding the agent to get awnings installed as it’s been about eight months since last asking and nothing has happened. Figured that the worst they can do is evict me as they can’t increase the rent again.

There is a desperately anxious part of my brain that is just waiting for a notice like this to come rolling in any day now. I feel like I’m on a decent wicket but I absolutely don’t want to be slugged with a rent increase this year, next year I can handle it, just not this year pls…

Didn’t help that the real estate agent (that my landlord no longer uses - we transact directly) called ME by mistake last week asking if I wanted a new valuation of the property. Fuck off, I hope my landlord told them to take a hike too because inevitably it’ll come back saying “look how much more rent you could be getting!” … and my rental provider, I should say, is probably only going to maintain prices up to a point.

Anyway. Sorry you had to get slugged this, it’s an awful stomach-pit feeling and just generally shit given the quality we put up with for the prices. I hope you get some traction with the awnings…

    I have: news

I thought on the TAFE situation some more and decided to see if I’d pass the assessment for the dual cert 4 in AOD/Community services, and if I didn’t, I was going to look elsewhere for the cert 3 I wanted in the first place.

An hour of stressing over not knowing what I’m doing and what to answer with later, I finished the LLN assesment and got a phone call from the course lady. Apparently I don’t quite meet the general entry requirements, but that given the nature of the course, I have a sufficient level to still understand what’s happening. Apparently TAFE (or at least this TAFE) don’t do binary pass/fails for their entry tests, it’s either fine or needs work.

With that said, I’ve now been offered a place in the new course, so as long as they don’t cancel this one too, I should be starting the same day as the last one (in 7 days). Do I know what I’m doing? No. But I hope I’ll figure it out soon…

But for some bad news, I think I’m going to take a little break from Lemmy for a while. With everything that’s been going on in my real life, I’ve found myself being more thin skinned and easily agitated than usual. Normally most things (particularly online) don’t phase me all too much, but it’s beginning to feel like I’m a camel that’s a few straws away from a broken back. So for the sake of my own sanity, and not lashing out at people who don’t deserve it, I’m going to take a short mental health break. I’ll be back in a couple of weeks probably

Okay, printing out these papers and trying to study in the uni library (albeit a very sad and neglected place now) is helpful, but I’ve had a ridiculously slow start to the day… and I’m dreading having to go to work the next couple of days, breaking the concentration/energy I need to focus on a very different mode of thinking/writing.

Maybe doing this work and study thing isn’t a very good idea :c I thought I had it in me but I don’t have the energy that I did 4-5 years ago. Okay okay, no more dwelling on these negative thoughts, just keep on with what I can do at the moment. I’m making some progress on this assignment outline.

Would a ritual before and after help?

One thing that does help is working in the same place.

A ritual before and after study?

I could definitely see that helping. Being physically in the library does help me focus a bit better (like the ritual of getting to uni, setting up, and acknowledging that now is uni time)

I haven’t worked out a good way to get into that mindset when I’m at home or have had work that day though. It seems nigh on impossible for me to work up the energy to think about uni after a day at work. It took me years to work out a ritual to help me get into ‘work mode’ when working from home.

I may need to accept that I’m only going to get uni work done while I’m at the library. Luckily, it’s only a 15 minute drive from home.

Mr Seagoon has specific tokens on his desk when he’s working on unique and individual projects. Maybe you can carry a desk token with you when you go to uni and have it at home too. Bring it out for that project.

One of my rituals is to use special washi tape to decorate the top of my notepaper for that day - I can set aside some special washi tape for uni work, maybe!

Though I definitely find that working in a different physical environment altogether has been the biggest help. I have gotten a lot more done today than I have in the past couple weeks

Academic writing is very different to the SEO blog content I used to crap out at an old job, but that approach to writing might behelpful.

I’d start with the title of the piece, then skeleton it out with subheadings, and expand on those subheadings to populate the body.

It’s a great way to structure your writing even when you don’t have the mental capacity to start. Then you can think about your argument before you do a bulk of the writing and you’re not staring at a blank page when you sit down to write again.

Also, check if the text editor you’re using has a referencing tool. It makes putting them in and your bibliography so much easier if you’re not using it already

Well, I have a bit of a skeleton going now thanks to a few meetings with my supervisor and emails summarising the overall logic flow.

Where I’m getting a bit stuck is going through the literature to actually understand what the hell I’m talking about. I find myself getting lost in the weeds without being able to understand what I need to focus on at this stage of the project. The specific area of research is an area I didn’t have much exposure to in my coursework so it’s kind of on me, choosing to jump into the deep end… but I feel like I’ve made some progress by getting through a couple of particularly dense papers and starting to how everything is connected, adding notes to the skeleton as I digest the papers.

I like need 3 more entire days to just smash through this but I frustratingly have to work to earn money and all that shit, and it’s mostly screen based work… I’m going to see how much I can get away with phoning it in at work this week so I don’t lose my study momentum

This is where I would kind of work backwards and skeleton out my writing, then look for anything in the research papers that supports it. I know it’s not so easy to Ctrl+f academic papers because they’re so dense, but you can skim until you find what you’re after.

If you’re not having luck then you adjust your argument to something more along the line of what you’ve read so far
