I will elaborate more in the replies, just be nice.

Tldr… I hate how one of the most common advice you receive as a loner without social life or a partner is to get a dog. I’m taking care of a dog for a while now as a favour, since I’m unemployed and have “nothing to do” (my brother went to his gf beach holiday house for the summer with her, his daughter, my younger siblings and my mom, couldn’t take the dog, it’s old) and I’m miserable, I HATE this. I don’t wanna have to deal with any animal after this.

Yeah, unless you’re rich that’s not a thing here. Apartments in condos are the norm.

Ugh… as someone stated before I think that’s more a owners problem than the dog problem. Clearly your brother didn’t properly train his dog and now you’re suffering because of it. Normal dogs can wait 8h or more if needed without shitting or peeing because people need to work and can’t take them out every 2 hours

Or OP isn’t taking it out regularly enough, and it’s succumbing to the need to shit, despite knowing the rules.

Unless this dog was a serial indoor shitter already, OP just isn’t caring for it to it’s needs

You said it’s a senior dog? They have advanced needs 8h isn’t gonna cut it

Again, I wish it could just be consistent, taking it out isn’t the problem but having a potential explosive diarrhea attack on the buildings elevator or in front of someone’s door while taking it out (Very close calls had happened) is.

                That 100% sucks.

But you agreed to this right? The dog is not malevolent, it’s just trying to get by.

It’s fair to not like dogs, no challenge on not wanting dogs in your life going forward.

I hear you. They should have informed you in the needs senior pets have. Some have very, … Troubled digestion.

I’m sorry I came down on you a bit, I only meant to say:

                    1. You’re in a shitty situation. A shitty attitude won’t help (lol)
                    2. The dog means no harm and I’m sure, if it’s been a normal pet all it’s life, is super “embarrassed” to be shitting inside by accident. (You know what I mean by embarrassed. It would prefer to follow the rules and shit outside).

I have a senior dog right now and maybe once a month he gets a funny tummy and just needs rapid access for a day or so. I’m fortunate to have a yard but even then it can be a “hurry”. So I’m sensitive about senior dogs in particular. The one you’re watching has a hard access route, their master is away, they aren’t as comfortable as when they are young, maybe some senses are fading (sight, hearing, mentation)

Anyway, good luck. Cutting their food with 50% plain white rice can help settle them. (Cooled, obviously, nothing too warm)

2 days ago it had diarrhea… I get that it’s old, but I really wanted to just leave it there. You’re probably right. Taking it outside, especially during summer and the mosquitoes isn’t the best thing ever either though.

I understand that but when someone gets a don’t you don’t get the option not to take it outside, unfortunately. The thing gotta poop

Oh no, I get that, I rather want to take the dog out without any problem, but that’s the problem. The dog also shit in outside property, like the public step of the entire building or the ramp, without reaching the park. Is a nightmare if that happens with the dog in this state
