Harris says she would appoint a Republican to her Cabinet if elected

In a clip of a CNN interview scheduled to air in full Thursday night, Harris said she was committed to welcoming diverse points of view.

“I have spent my career inviting diversity of opinion. I think it’s important to have people at the table when some of the most important decisions are being made that have different views, different experiences,” Harris said. “And I think it would be to the benefit of the American public to have a member of my Cabinet who was a Republican.”

    I think that if a person is incapable of evaluating a party’s policy stances objectively, and are willing to vote for literal fascists, then yeah I would say they’re unreasonable. At best. I think that’s being pretty fucking charitable.

      So you don’t know any repubs in real life?

      It’s pretty disappointing to constantly see on lemmy “50% of the country are Nazis!!!” It’s a naive, cynical, and unrealistic viewpoint. You can believe that a majority of GOP politicians are evil without believing that half the country is evil. The world isn’t that black and white.

      Unreasonable conservatives would paint you in a similar light. You have to leave room for differences in opinion and thought. Do you believe that your opinion is the only just and right way of thinking? If anything, that’s a quick route to a dictator.

        I do. And they’re unreasonable people. I don’t know why this is difficult to understand.

        Some of them are even my parents. It fucking sucks.

        This is not about difference of opinion. You have yet to even list 3 GOP policies that you agree with.

            Three GOP policies.

            The fact is, when you actually press any conservative like this, their entire belief system breaks down completely.

            Many of them have a sort of defense mechanism built-in to their brain that tries to protect them from the glaring cognitive dissonance. You should try to fight that.

      We have to share this country with A LOT of people, being unreasonable is not an on/off switch. Republican voters can be unreasonable about some things but not nessissarily be an unreasonable person. Regardless of anyone’s options, every gets to view the world through their own eyes and may come to different conclusions then you. Also, you can be a Republican and not vote Republican.
