When there’s so many that can bombard or overwhelm the rest of the discussion they should stick to their own echo chamber. I don’t see the same problem you do with defederating from them and am more likely to use the site more without their presence.

This is pretty misleading. There was a mix of people good and bad, just like there is now. Plenty of racist and hateful millennials/zoomers as well that lean conservative. Each subsequent generation just likes to pat themselves on the backs and claim they’re better and more enlightened.

I don’t need hate speech and grief/bullshit on what I expect to be a private online forum. This incessant “free speech” approach for even the worst people ever is ruining online communities and I’m tired of seeing it defended. They are free to silence whatever hate speech they like.

If people don’t like it they can create their own website and run it the way they like (like Voat, 8chan or Truth Social). It’s not a country and other people shouldn’t be forced to have to see or interact with it under the guise of “free speech” (on a private website).

I highly doubt they’ll do that as they’ve had USB-C on their iPads for a few years now already and haven’t. I’m using Anker/other cables I got for 1/3 the price of Apple’s and they work just fine at proper speeds.

Should at least offer 10-15GB as the fee tier at least, it’s 2023. Or add 5GB per owned/registered and in use device.

This is a take I would expect to see on Reddit, it’s simply not true. None of those devices run iOS either which is what a lot of people prefer. It’s okay to dislike something, you don’t need to insult the people that do.

A user blocking an entire instance still means their hateful members can post and clog up another one. We don’t need Lemmy.world turning into truth.social. People don’t want to see or read that garbage or be exposed to it, this isn’t a “both sides” issue.

I actually prefer that instances can do this, the whole point is to find one you more closely align with like old school forums. The ones they’ve done this to are either mass brigading, full of Nazis or sharing CSAM. They have every right to protect their users from that kind of stuff or make those decisions when they’re individuals paying to run an instance.

Until there’s a tool I can use to fully block instances myself (which I don’t see available) this is the way it’s run. Maybe the fediverse just isn’t for you? As someone who grew up using old school forums this is completely fine and expected. If I am running a website (or store) I have every right to manage it the way I see fit.
