Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

I’ve had those days. Days when I feel like so much nothing and can barely bring myself to do anything except stare vacantly into the distance.

It passes, but it is exhausting when you’ve got to deal with it too often.

Kia kaha! Remember to go easy on yourself… it’s OK to take it easy (as much as possible)

Can someone just give me a couple million bucks so I can buy and refurbish a house?

Best I can do is a $2 scratchie.

There was that subreddit I think was called millionairemakers or something like that. The idea was that if a million people contributed $1 you could make someone a millionaire. Each month they picked someone at random.

It’s a pretty cool idea but I think the chosen ones only ever got a few hundred bucks.

It would make an interesting case study. Well, someone who knows what they are talking about would probably say it’s clear cut, but that won’t stop me claiming it’s complicated and talking like I know what I’m talking about.

If it’s just a dollar and all proceeds are paid out as the prize, and the prize money is not more than $500, then is this just a sweepstake?

If you don’t have to pay anything to participate, is it even gambling at all?

I think it’s probably not even gambling, since you can participate without actually paying anything. Based on my reading of the definition of gambling in the act.

I think the main problem would be, how would you prove that the “random selection” was actually random.

Probably not a big deal with a few hundred dollars, but if they actually got to a million (or even a hundred thousand), there could easily be legal action.

Ah right, we had different ideas about legal issues. There is no central pool, no one is collecting and paying out. Basically they select a random user to have their paypal/crypto address pinned for a month.

I just looked up their randomising process, they are using the bitcoin blockchain to pick a winner so it’s verifiable . See the latest post.

Interesting… not sure it would protect them from all legal issues, but that probably wouldn’t be tested for small amounts.

Using an anomous account is probably the main legal protection 😆

COVID! Not me yet, so far 2/5 in the house but I’m sure it’s coming. Probably got it from someone at the wedding last weekend.

Uh oh. I’ve had it once and that was enough for me - got it at a funeral in my case. Good luck!

Thanks! I’m now wishing I’d got around t getting the Omicron shot but I guess it’s too late now, will just have to eat a few oranges and hope I don’t get it.

This year I’ve had about 5 colds and the flu, so my immune system might have been accidentally turned off.

Hope you can manage to avoid it! Or if not, that it’s not too bad for you.

Had it about a year ago, and do not recommend.

Yeah I had it about a year ago too and wasn’t too badly affected, but that was about peak immunity following jabs. I haven’t had a COVID jab since and the strains have changed so we will see.

I had been intending to get the new jab but have had a bit of a shit year so never got around to it.

When the kid and I had it last year, my wife got away unscathed so it’s possible. I did sleep on the couch though.

I though I got away without it last time, but I ended up with it a week after the others.

    Daylight savings sucks.

This is the first year that I have really felt the time change affect me. Usually I just hate it because it messes with the kids sleep patterns. And it screws up data collection for some applications.
