Crucified people are forced into a stress position that’s likely to slowly fill your lungs with liquid; suffocation is one of the ways crucifixion killed, though getting tortured probably didn’t help.

Stabbing someone who’s crucified can release the liquid into their lungs, and if you stab them in the lung thst liquid can come out. I guess there’s also some kind of religious meaning to it these days, but draining liquid out of lungs is something that happens in hospitals to this day.

Of course the victim would need to be pretty close to death for the lung tissue to break down because of the lack of oxygen so the liquid can gather at the bottom, it’s not something that just happens. Then again, according to the bible, Jesus did walk quite a distance carrying the cross, so no doubt he was pretty close to death before they even put the first nails into him.
