They all look so staged but I’m worried that I’m just jumping on the I’m So Smart And Immune To Lies train

Do we have actual proof of companies as high profile as Apple doing this?

Lemmy is nowhere big enough for any serious company to care about astroturfing here. Someone would probably get fired for suggesting it because of how low-reach Lemmy is right now.

A lot of people are tech or tech-adjacent here. For American devs in HCOL areas, a $3500 device can be completely within their budget.

It’s a new product. Some people are either excited about it, humblebragging, or just straight up bragging.

Op linked reddit posts. Did you click the links?

Edit: apparently the links weren’t there in the start.

I doubt that these are stealth advertisements but apple know that a vast majority of the people who buy their stuff really, REALLY want others to see that they have them. It’s some deluded prestige/ status thing that they perceive apple products gives them.

That’s why it’s odd that these hugely popular posts are “Look what I, a third party, saw in the wild” and not first person videos which would make sense if early adopters were showing off. But first person vids featuring products often feel like an ad.

For example, it’s odd seeing someone wearing >$3k of stealable head gear that makes them blind, while on the subway

People develop brand loyalty and do their advertisimg for them. Apple has always had a cult following and that is what you are seeing here.

I guarantee you Apple would never sign off on someone using a Vision Pro while driving dangerously.

Besides the obvious reasons, Apple has a pretty sour relationship with Tesla and Musk.

Branded items are commonplace and are nothing more than neutral objects to some people. They may want to share something interesting without the intent to promote a specific item seen in it.

Like the people walking around malls and driving their Tesla with one on? I think those are completely organic. I think for a little while there will be a subset of people who see them as a status symbol and want the attention.
