Atheists, there’s 8 billion people in the world. Not everyone is going to share your thoughts on religion, movies, music, food, or tattoos, etc.

Why can’t you see a post or comment about religion and say to yourself, “Oh, this is not for or about me” and then just move on to another post? What is the incessant compulsion to comment?

EDIT:

There sure is a lot of ultra-triggered atheists in here!

No one is answering my question:

Why can’t you see a post or comment about religion and say to yourself, “Oh, this is not for or about me” and then just move on to another post?

movies, music, food, or tattoos, etc.

What the hell does any of this to do with atheism? You seem confused.

Agreed. Most atheist are anti-religious and not atheist.

I’m an atheist and few people know. I don’t bash religion. I just like my life and let the religious people live theirs.

There’s a difference between the crap legislation being pushed and the stupid comments online.

If religions would stop evangelizing and keep their personal beliefs private there wouldn’t be so much material to push back on.

I don’t mind if you practice a religion in a still chamber in your house. But at the point it interferes with politics i strongly disagree. Same with telling me what to do.

By the way, i don’t think you really know the meaning of agnostic. You you tell someone who knows there is nothing supernatural to believe in something supernatural. Hm. I don’t think that is very convincing.

    Hmm… Strange take.

Do you understand that it’s perhaps only the militant atheists that bother commenting on religious posts at all?

An atheist wouldn’t want to comment on a religious post to begin with unless they were militant, so you’re only seeing the militant ones.

What you’ve essentially done is look for whales in a glass of water.

And I don’t think its enough.

A lot of the christians I met are the same type of annoying militant. Christianity in general is in dire need of some dissent.

Huge props for an actual unpopular opinion though, it hurt to upvote you.

I am. Look at my posting history, I never mention it. Most people who don’t believe in something never talk about it, it doesn’t define them.

Your getting a sample bias because the vocal minority is has a outsized representation in your sampleset.

“Atheists should be chill and more agnostic.”

Really? Be more agnostic if they are atheists?

Why not ignore the comments that bash on religion as you have stated for them to do?

    Pot meet kettle.

Yeah, if religion will just go ahead and stay in its lane we won’t have any problems.

Religion gets pushback when it does shit like banning abortion.

Let your faith determine how you live your life.

This is a rather common phenomenon where one person feels enlightened and as such has to share it with everyone else. Be it people who feel very strong about veganism, nuclear power, different systems of measurement, voting, certain music genres, anything really. It’s usually not something bad but can be annoying. For most people it’s a normal response to learning something new, but it can be a reinforcing circle if a lot of people gather in one bubble and share new “facts” about the topic, that’s when you suddenly have swathes of people preaching about their favourite topic.

I am going to assume you mean people who think they know it all on that topic and everyone who lives a different lifestyle is somehow misled. But good sir/ma’am/honored person: Your ratio surpasses even mine. That definitely makes for an unpopular opinion.

I completely agree. You might get excited about the idea that God doesn’t like abortion, but screaming about it in front of a clinic isn’t appropriate.

Somewhat more extreme than what I meant. Really, when people actively harm others this very much goes beyond the scope of this unpopular take. I meant it more as a “parading your new favourite music” or whenever someone advocates for some kind of alternate calender. People that are very strict on their vegan lifestyle. You know, harmless stuff.

What the fuck are you talking about?

How many atheist churches are there? Atheist billboards? Atheist politicians? Atheist judges and legislators? How many atheist athletes are there? How many atheist soldiers are there?

Now ask the same of how many Christians? How many Hindus or Muslims or Jewish people? Religious people are compelled to share their faith and their opinions, and make every attempt to control the thoughts and decisions of the people around them. If you see an atheist, it’s invariably because religious people are trying to pull some fuckery to promote their own faith. The rest of the time, we silently endure public proclamations of the supremacy of their particular deity because it’s not worth the grief of outing ourselves.

Get the fuck out of here with your bullshit, telling people how to act.

If religion didn’t feel such a need to control others I wouldn’t feel such a need to call it stupid.
