No, no this “sub”, but feddiverse in general. I keep getting banned from some places for no reason, no insults, no replies or not obeying the rules… Mods have too much power.

The whole system is flawed, nobody should be able to ban anyone unless they do something actually terrible like pure hate speech or asking for horrible stuff. I guess asking for a forum system place without the cringe of Tumblr is impossible.

Every server has a level of tolerance for certain, I’ll call them “antisocial”, attitudes on their forums. By expressing antisocial attitudes, I mean saying stuff that makes people not want to hang out and discuss in the online space, even if not pure hate speech or horrible stuff. When you converse in those forums, you have to follow both your home instance and the destination instance’s rules. You know how you need to express yourself differently between your BFFs, your romantic partner, your parents, strangers at a bar, strangers on a bus, your work colleagues or your boss? Same thing here. If you need earnest advice, here’s some:

    • Using nicknames like “Fuckers” and “Hate” is already not a good start as that is itself a wilful expression of negativity. Try a more neutral or positive one: BlueFlower, TeaStamp, HoundRoad, it doesn’t matter. You can also change the nick of accounts you’d already previously created.
    • Read the modlog for why that account got banned, read the cited rule. Check if you were banned from your home site, remote site or a specific community and read those site rules. If you want to participate in that specific server, you need to change your behaviour, not the mod(s) that banned you.
    • If you try to circumvent bans with new accounts, you can be banned without explanation. Don’t do that.
    • Try not to post in succession about a single lewd or contentious topic as if you had an obsession with it, especially in communities that aren’t specifically about that.
    • Try to be more careful when you’re on a new account, you are more likely to be accused of being a troll or hack on political threads, and a spammer if you just start posting a torrent of stuff right after signing up. There’s no global karma system but there is the idea of rep that you get with account age that lets you say slightly more controversial things, that’s up to the discretion of every moderator and reported violations can still get a longtimer banned just the same as a newcomer.
    • I’m not saying that this is necessarily how you acted, but you will see more success if you can, in general, talk to people like someone who’s not a jerk.

If you think these rules of talking to other people online on the Fediverse are ridiculous, you are welcome to make your own Lemmy, Kbin, Piefed, or whatever instance (with blackjack and hookers), and set the rules within your own communities yourself.
