  • Older systems are absolutely not more stable or secure. There is no version of Windows that’s secure, but what little security it does pretend to vanishes rapidly with age and lack of security patches.

There are various Unix-like OS’s which are hardened and very minimal (as to reduce attack surface) which are frequently mistaken for being relics of the 1980s, but get regular security, kernel and package updates. Around 2015 I had a client running an IBM DOS system for an electronic sign. I replaced it with a newish machine running a shiny new FreeBSD install and a shell script that mimicked the old menu system. No one could even tell the difference after it was booted up. Even AS/400 systems are more modern than most people expect.

I’ve never worked on aircraft, but the general policy with industrial systems is “just works”. An example of an aircraft needing critical updates would be the 737 MAX, which has an automatic attitude control mechanism which has caused two fatal crashes, multiple near-disasters and groundings (and may be indirectly responsible for some dead whistleblowers).

  • They don’t need to run. They don’t need to win. They don’t care about anyone’s loss of rights. They’re the heralds of fascism just as much as the other party. It’s all identity politics. Trump winning means maximum fundraising. In that way, he’s actually a gift to the democratic party. If Biden lives long enough and wins, they will immediately cast the shadow of Trump over the next election as the next existential threat and money will flow again into the party coffers from pearl-clutching liberal donors. When Trump dies, they will have to prop up some “New Trump” since they aren’t going actually undermine capital to create better conditions. idpol is the only thing the democratic party ever does in US “elections”.

  • I agree with the overextension argument. The US did try to negotiate keeping the base, or even relocating it. It seems that soft power failed and they were forced to withdraw or use military intervention. If they did invade/coup Niger, it would require arms transfers they already cannot meet in the other two fronts, and, probably worse, would unravel the US imperialist narratives even faster and weaken their strategic relationships which are already starting to crumble.

I’m 100% certain the US plans on coming back, but I don’t think the US will ever recover in a way that it would be possible if it stays on the current track.

  • As I understand it, some of the Haredi are anti-zionist. Of those there are some that think only god can bring about zion and its heresy or something to attempt to do so politically, caring little or nothing for Palestinians themselves. There are some others which do see the occupation and treatment of Palestinians as immoral and an affront to their religious beliefs, some of those are even deeply committed to the Palestinian cause. I’ve seen cases of those Haredi waving the Palestine flag, swarming and harassing IOF out of Jerusalem and West Bank settlements.

But yeah, most of them enjoy the privilege of being a special class in Isn’treal society. They want the whole colonial project, but think the blood belongs on someone else’s hands.

  • I love the idea of Ukraine, one of the biggest and most corrupt kleptocracies on earth, being “lawful”. Also all 3 “good” alignments are colonial countries responsible for some… ummm… notable genocides. I cannot think of a single way in which Isn’treal is conceivably neutral; likely one of the most polarized “states” to ever exist. 10/10 gamerbrain waste of biomass.
