It’s interesting how when it comes to trucks, the American automakers are the high reliability brands, while Toyota’s trucks are very hit or miss, practically lemon-level reliability.

I think you have that the wrong way around.

First off, fuck JD Power. Their reliability scoring method is ass.
top 6 trucks here are american
Not according to the link you just send me …
Are you american? Because there’s thousands of jokes on Ford F, GMC, RAM, etc saying they all spend their time at the dealership or are broken down the road
Yeah there’s a reason used Toyota trucks are so goddamn expensive.
The frame rust was an issue, but Toyota replaced frames for way longer than any Ford warranty would cover.
I think most Toyota trucks are considered very reliable. Their worst enemy is rust. Other Japanese brands like Nissan are less consistent than Toyota though.
Nissan took a huge reliability hit with their CVTs, then their variable compression engines further hurt their reputation.
Depends on the era tbh. Nissan Hardbodys with the KA24 will go toe-to-toe with the Toyotas from the same time in my experience
Very much incorrect
Lmao no. Tell me you’ve never owned a T100 without telling me you’ve never owned a T100
I scoffed at the name when it came out, but knew it would be a beast for durability.
Anecdotal, but I had two Chevrolets and one Ford that had pretty bad problems in the 90s to early 2000s. Bought a Tacoma in 2007 and it’s still going strong. Biggest problem is a very tiny coolant leak that started in 2023 and I should probably fix instead of topping off…
I love my taco.
I followed the links in that story, and see nothing but claims.
Toyota (and Honda) engines are incredibly robust. To have a single new engine fail would be very surprising, but 2 or 3? Yea, I need to see a lot more detail about what’s going on (and not just links from a story quoting an owner with broken links to forums).
As someone who first tured a wrench nearly 50 years ago, and worked on every brand available in the US, with racing siblings all that time, um, no, I’m calling BS here.
I refuse to own vehicles from the Big 3 any more. Tired of working on them.
